Seen the adverts for the Bowflex one, I think it's a gimmick, the ad says "burn calories at twice the rate of a treadmill AT THE SAME SPEED", but the problem is you can't run on one of these doohickeys, on a treadmill if you want to up the burn rate, you just speed it up.
I'm also less than convinced of that claim, it seems to me that a treadmill at a steep incline would be just as effective (maybe not QUITE as effective since it lacks the up and down motion) but far more versatile since you can lower the incline and actually run.

That's my problem...

I use my treadclimber both for the treadmill and the elliptical about 3 days a week but I'm not getting enough of an upper body workout. (The treadclimber works well when the weather isn't so great for walking or hiking here in Oregon...)
I used to have the Bowflex with the weight attachments but it seemed to work better as a clothes hanger :)
Now my brother-in-law has it, uses it regularly, and I'm looking at joining a gym for the pilates, yoga, jazzercise and swimming :)

I'm really interested in the Bowflex Treadclimber, but have read different reviews on it saying it breaks down a lot and having to get off it to change your resistence slows your workout down. I'm really interested in this machine, but reluctant to spend SO much money on something that may not be worth it. If anyone can tell me of their experience with the treadclimber, or the treadclimber vs. a treadmill, I'd really appreciate it.

    • Hello, I used to work in the treadmill retail industry. I can personally attest to the frequent breakdowns of the treadmclimbers by any company. Maybe in a few years they'll be better, but for now they have yet to impress me. Second, they just feel so strange when working out on them. Doesn't feel natural at all.
